What's New in Johns Island

The Lowcountry Land Trust and the City of Charleston are creating a 44-acre Angel Oak Preserve, a $13.5 to $16.5 million project that includes a welcome center, boardwalk trails, and a nature play area. The Design Review Board approved the design in January 2026, with construction expected to begin in late 2026. The City of Charleston is also building a brand new modern recreation center on Johns Island, with construction starting summer 2026, and a 66-acre park expansion is underway through a land protection deal.
